My computer will not update!?

I have automatic updates on and the little yellow thing will popup in my taskbar but i cant click or anything it just sits there and goes away after a while. I even updated through microsoft's website and it doesnt do anything, it says installing but nothing. I tried to install windows live messenger, no go. My computer is virus, spyware, malware, adware free and it will not update any suggestions. I tried to go to the customer support through microsft after i spoke with my computers customer support and they told me to ask microsft but they want u to pay for it. i have service pack 2 installed on an emachines pc.

what errors are u getting?

is the update service , bits service and event log service running?

do u have any security policies enabled.

is automatic updates set to download and istall or donwload and notify?

(you can copy and paste that into the command prompt)

if the automatic update service is running it will show now at the command prompt after u press enter.. U should stop the service and do this

U can try to delete the updated binaries in the software distributrion fodler

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Downlo...

this is removing the update from ur PC to start fresh

and the web set up configuration as well

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\WebSet...

also the db and logs

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataSt...

after all this is deleted u can

regsvr32 %26lt;all the update dll's %26gt;.*

wuacl.dll

wups.dll

and there are other

then restart the service and reboot

u should be able to update now
