What is Adware.Generic?

I need help because Adware.Generic keeps on showing up whenever I scan my PC even if I uninstall and reinstall my PC's OS I use AVG Free Anti Spyware please help

It may be some kind of adware that isn't specifically identified.

It is possible that it is a false positive from AVG. Try using another anti-spyware product like spybot or ad aware se. (Both free!) and scan you system and see if they find whatever it is that you are.

Also make sure you are as up to date as possible on all virus definitions.

This is a trojan, and for pete's sake, stop with the uninstall and reinstalling your OS. All you need is SpyBot and Ad-Aware, both free from download.com. When running SpyBot for the first time, immunize your computer against all 15,000 known threats, then run a bot check and use the Fix Selected Problems to remove whatever it finds. When running Ad-Aware for the first time, run a full system scan, then run a Smart Scan often (2-3 times a week).

Hopefully you haven't been uninstalling and reinstalling your OS just because of this adware or false positive. If so it's not at all necessary. First of all I'll assume you at least quarantine the files/ registry key(s) associated with this result or do you just go and try a reinstall. If not please try doing so first. Have a look at the files and/or registry key(s) it's mentioning as part of the result. Can you tell if they're associated with a program you know? Sometimes that can help to work out if it's a false positive but either way the reason it keeps coming back is mostly likely because you keep installing a program that is being shown as carrying or using this adware, you need to work out what that is.

Unzip it to a permanent folder and do a system scan and save log file and then post it at one of these forums.

(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans

(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have any other viruses in your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .
